Fargo Man Arrested for Wilkin County Burglary Involving Safe Theft

WILKIN COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – On December 20, 2024, a burglary occurred at a residence south of Barnesville in Wilkin County, Minnesota. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Benjamin Emerson from Fargo, North Dakota, entered the property’s garage and attempted to load a safe into his pickup truck using a floor jack. After unsuccessful attempts, he used a chain to drag the safe into the yard before leaving the scene.

Following the incident, the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office disseminated images captured from the property’s security system, seeking public assistance in identifying the suspect. This initiative generated multiple leads.

On December 27, 2024, deputies from the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with detectives from the Fargo Police Department, executed a search warrant at Emerson’s residence in Fargo. Emerson was arrested on local charges by the Fargo Police Department and on charges of burglary and theft by Wilkin County deputies. Initially, he was held at the Cass County Jail in North Dakota before being transferred to the Wilkin County Jail in Minnesota on December 28, 2024.
