Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Fargo man who was initially detained during a burglary investigation is now facing charges after allegedly threatening to kill children.
According to court documents, police responded to a possible burglary on August 12, around 7:40 p.m. Officers located Andrew Barrett, who matched the description of the suspect in that case.
The homeowner involved told police they did not want to press charges, and Barrett was released. However, officers noted that Barrett had been yelling and screaming at them during the encounter, so they stayed in the area until he left to ensure he was no longer a threat.
As Barrett walked away, police say he began screaming at multiple people nearby. According to the complaint, Barrett allegedly threatened to kill a young child and the child’s friend.
The children approached an officer moments later and reported the threats. Barrett was taken into custody and charged with terrorizing a child victim.
He was arraigned on August 13 in Cass County Court. If convicted of terrorizing, Barrett faces a potential prison sentence under North Dakota law, which classifies the offense as a serious felony when directed toward a minor.
Authorities have not released additional details about the initial burglary report or any possible connection between Barrett and the victims.
