FARGO ( trfnews.i234.me ) — A Fargo woman is facing a felony charge after police say she caused more than $2,000 in damage inside an apartment building on Christmas Eve.

Shania B. Higdem of Fargo is charged with felony criminal mischief. The charge follows a vandalism call that brought officers to an apartment building in Fargo, according to court documents.

What the police say happened

Court records state Fargo police responded to the building after a report of vandalism. When officers arrived, they found Higdem near a damaged wall, the documents say.

Police reported seeing Higdem with her hand through the drywall. Officers also reported six holes in the wall. The damage appeared fresh, according to the complaint.

Higdem spoke with police at the scene, court documents say. She admitted she kicked holes in the wall. She told officers she was angry after being told to leave by her boyfriend.

Damage estimate and charge

The damage was estimated at more than $2,000, according to the court filing. Police arrested Higdem. Prosecutors later filed the felony criminal mischief charge.

Felony criminal mischief cases often depend on the value of the damage. Charges can change as repair estimates are reviewed. Court records did not list a final repair bill.

The case is now moving through the court system. A first court appearance is typically scheduled after charges are filed. Conditions of release may also be set by the court.

Where to learn more

Readers can review North Dakota criminal laws through the North Dakota Century Code. Public court records may be found on the North Dakota Courts Public Search site.

As with any criminal case, the charge is an allegation. Higdem is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
