Chet Walker, a Hall of Fame basketball player known for his exceptional career with the Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls, has passed away at the age of 84. Walker, affectionately nicknamed “The Jet” for his speed, was a seven-time NBA All-Star and a member of the 1967 NBA championship team with the 76ers. His death was confirmed on June 8, 2024, by the National Basketball Players Association.
Walker played 13 seasons in the NBA from 1962 to 1975, beginning with the Syracuse Nationals, which later became the Philadelphia 76ers. He was a crucial player on the 1966-67 76ers team that won the championship and set a then-record of 68 regular-season victories. After being traded to the Chicago Bulls in 1969, Walker continued to excel, becoming an integral part of the team and helping them reach the playoffs every season until his retirement in 1975.
Walker was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012 and was also honored as one of the first members of the Chicago Bulls’ Ring of Honor earlier this year. His career averages include 18.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game over 1,032 games
