Evelyn M. Hensrud, 98, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks.
Evelyn Mae Smith was born March 10, 1926 in Grand Forks, the daughter of George and Ruth (Hammer) Smith. She was raised and educated in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School in 1944.
Evelyn married Marvin Hensrud on June 29, 1947 at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. They lived in Mekinock, ND, and later, Minot, ND before returning to Grand Forks in 1965. Evelyn worked for many years as a childcare provider, and many of the children kept in touch with her throughout the rest of her life.
Evelyn & Marvin participated in many activities together including playing bridge and traveling, and both were active members of the Gyda Varden Lodge of the Sons of Norway and Calvary Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her children Grant Hensrud (Carolyn), Paula Johnson (Don), Barbara Stolt (Wilbur), Carol Hornaday (Steve), Mary Hensrud, and Linda Harmon (Mark); 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and sister Pat Erickson.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Marvin and grandchild Brynn, and brothers Paul, Jerry, and Lyle.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, September 16, 2024 at Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Ness Lutheran Cemetery near Mekinock, ND. Arrangements are with Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church or to Ness Lutheran Church.
