Evelyn K Lommen died on Sunday, June 16 in a Sioux Falls, S.D. hospital after a brief illness.

Evelyn was born on October 9, 1952 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Ole and Gladys (Gulbranson) Lommen.

She completed her eighth-grade education in a one-room country school in Rye township and graduated from Central High School in Grand Forks in 1969. Evelyn attended the University of North Dakota, married Grover P. Icenogle in 1972, and graduated cum laude in 1973. They moved to Marinette, Wisconsin where her husband was working with medical records management and hospital administration. Evelyn found employment as a substitute teacher in the Marinette School System. After their marriage ended she then moved to Middleton, Wisconsin where she worked in musical instrument sales and taught organ lessons to students of Ware-Brodt Music. She then moved to Mt Horeb, Wisconsin and was employed by the State Department of Transportation as a Forms Manager/Designer until retiring in 2007.

Evelyn’s colleagues report her as being known for crossing all her “t’s” and dotting all her “I’s”. She embarked on two more careers after moving to Sioux Falls where she worked at Citibank in data processing and customer service which was then followed by a security guard position with Allied Universal. During her whole career she participated in music, singing in choral groups such as the Madison Civic Chorus, teaching music and playing organ music for churches in every location where she lived. She was passionate about her faith and her love of music, especially organ music. At the time of her death she was leading a Bible study group on the book of Philippians.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, oldest sister Ina and Ina’s daughter, Caryn Diane Luadtke. She is survived by a sister, Gloria (Michael) Norberg, Austin, Texas and Gloria’s daughter Margaret Vaaler (Steven Kolar) and their children, a daughter Isabella and son Alexander. She is also survived by a brother, Orvin (Carolyn) Lommen, Minot, N.D., son Erik (Sara) and their son Oliver of Hopkins, Minnesota, and son David (Lisa) of Minot, N.D.

A memorial service will be held at the Middle Grove Lutheran Church of rural Mekinock, N.D. on August 3rd at 2pm followed by a burial of the cremains in the Middle Grove Cemetery. Lunch will be served in the church basement.

Memorials may be given to the Middle Grove Cemetery Assn., P.O. Box 160, Larimore, N.D., 58251. Memorials may also be given to a charity of your choice.
