William “Alden” Elliot
Officers Alden Elliot and Sam Poloche, North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, Police Officer Joshua Eyer, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and a United States Marshal were shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant on Galway Drive in east Charlotte.
At 1:30 p.m., when United States Marshal’s officers attempted to serve a felony warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, they were ambushed by a subject with a high-powered rifle. They returned fire, and a 30-minute shootout ensued.
Officer Elliot, Officer Poloche, and a Deputy Marshal were killed at the scene. Officer Joshua Eyer succumbed to his wounds a few hours later. Three officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and a U.S. deputy marshall were also injured.
The subject was shot and killed, and two subjects were taken into custody for questioning.
Officer Elliot had served with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction for 14 years, assigned to the Special Operations and Intelligence Unit. He is survived by his wife and child.
