MILWAUKEE, WI (trfnews.i234.me) – Minnesota Congressman Tom Emmer predicts that Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump will turn the state red in November. Emmer, representing the sixth district, spoke at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday, emphasizing the theme “Make America Safe Again.” He criticized the Democratic response to the Minneapolis riots following George Floyd’s killing and asserted that Trump supports law enforcement, stating, “Donald Trump stands with the people and the police, our men and women in blue, not with the criminals and rioters.”
During the Twin Cities riots, then-President Trump threatened to deploy the military and later claimed credit for restoring order. However, Governor Tim Walz, who deployed the National Guard, maintains that Trump had no role in that decision.
Democrats have countered Emmer’s statements by highlighting the January 6th, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, during which Trump supporters assaulted 140 police officers. Governor Walz, currently at the Democratic National Committee’s counter-convention in Milwaukee, joined the Biden campaign in criticizing Trump’s connections to Project 2025. They emphasized the risks posed by Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, regarding plans to ban abortion nationwide and restrict access to in vitro fertilization and contraception.
As chair of the Democratic Governors Association, Walz has been a prominent advocate for reproductive freedom, empowered by the 2022 election that secured a trifecta for the DFLers in the Minnesota Legislature. Trump, defending the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade during a debate with President Biden, argued that it returned the issue to the states, a point Democrats argue allows some states to impose total abortion bans.
