Worthington – Eileen Ramona Purdy passed away on February 16, 2021.

Eileen was born November 19, 1938, in Thief River Falls Minnesota to Norval and Myrtle Swenson.

In high school and after graduation she enjoyed working retail and hostessing at local restaurants. She married Robert Purdy Sr. on January 13, 1962, and they had two sons, Bobby and Michael.

Eileen and Robert ran Purdy Shoe Store in Thief River Falls and Grand Forks. Later they moved to Red Wing and took over Anderson Shoes. One of their adventures was purchasing and running a fishing resort in Lake of the Woods, Canada.

Warm weather eventually called them to Arizona, where they lived for many years. Eileen loved the climate and sunshine every day. Robert passed away in April 2006 and this brought Eileen back to Minnesota. In Minnesota, she was closer to her four siblings, two children, and grandchildren. She lived in Golden Valley before moving to Worthington, Minnesota. While in the cities she loved shopping at the Eden Prairie Mall and days at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater with family.

The Hallmark Channel was one of her favorites and getting her nails done was a special treat. Talking on the phone was one of her favorite pastimes and helped her stay connected with family when she moved to care facilities.

Eileen was called home by her heavenly father unexpectedly on February 16th.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and eldest son Bobby.

She is survived by her son, Michael Purdy, and grandchildren, Alex Purdy (Brookings), Marah Darling (Worthington), Mitchel Purdy (Denver, CO) and Trenton Purdy (St. Louis Park).
The family will hold a small gathering at a later date in her honor.

It was her greatest wish to get back to Thief River Falls and spend more time with family.

Those elements will be a part of her final celebration of life.

Cards or memorials can be sent to Michael Purdy, 201 ½ 9th Street, Worthington, MN 56187.
