Edith F. Johnson, age 97, resident of McVille, ND, died Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the NCHS Care Center in McVille.
Edith Fern Thompson was born September 8, 1926 on a farm near Kloten, ND, the daughter of Gilbert and Marit (Amundson) Thompson. She graduated from Kloten High School as the class Valedictorian. Edith married Lawrence C. Johnson on June 26, 1945. They lived and farmed near McVille, where Edith also worked at the central telephone office, the hospital, the nursing home, Twete Incorporated, and the Pioneer Village at Stump Lake. She also operated a craft store on her farm with her sisters. Lawrence died November 7, 1988. She continued living on the farm, until she became a resident of the NCHS Care Center.
Edith will be missed by her 2 sons, Larry (Helga) and Eugene; 4 grandchildren, Angela, Michael, Michelle, and Nicholas; 8 great grandchildren, Lukas, Phillip, Jonas, Colby, Kasey, Cooper, Nolan, and Adriania; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; great grandson, Christopher; daughter-in-law, Joyce; her twin sister, Ethel (Leslie) Brooks, sister, Gina (Ed) Hatlestad, brother, Allyn (Lori), sister, Hazel, and brother, Alvin.
The Funeral Service for Edith will be held at New Luther Valley Lutheran Church, McVille, ND, on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Zion Cemetery, rural Kloten, ND. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
