Duluth (trfnews.i234.me) — A 16-year-old boy from Duluth has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for an attack on a homeless man.
86-month EJJ sentence
The teen received an 86-month prison sentence under Minnesota’s Extended Jurisdiction Juvenile (EJJ) program.
Under EJJ, the prison term is stayed. That means it is held back for now.
The sentence can be enforced later. That can happen if the teen breaks probation rules.
More information on EJJ is available in Minnesota law here: Minnesota Statutes: 260B.130.
What prosecutors say happened
Prosecutors say the assault happened in August.
They say the teen struck a 61-year-old homeless man in the head with a rock.
Prosecutors say the teen recorded the attack. They say it was recorded for social media.
The case was handled in court. The teen was sentenced during a Monday hearing.

Victim statement and apology
The teen apologized to the 61-year-old victim during the hearing.
The court set probation conditions. Those conditions must be followed.
If he follows the rules, the prison term stays on hold.
If he violates probation, the prison term may be imposed.
