On Saturday night, Duluth police officers on patrol near Central Hillside Park encountered a man in possession of several stolen items. The individual claimed to have found the items behind the CHUM building. He was arrested and taken to the county jail on an unrelated warrant. The recovered items are being processed for return to their rightful owners. The investigation remains ongoing.
Earlier that day, the Mankato West High School varsity hockey team was compelled to forfeit their final game at the Heritage Holiday Classic in Duluth. The team reported that their stick bag, containing over 35 hockey sticks valued at approximately $12,000, was stolen from their bus overnight. The theft led to the postponement of their match against Anoka High School. The Duluth Police Department is collaborating with the team as part of the ongoing investigation.
Head Coach Nate Olson expressed gratitude for the community’s immediate support, noting that some individuals offered spare sticks and initiated a GoFundMe campaign. The team has been participating in the Duluth tournament for over a decade, traditionally storing their sticks in the bus’s cargo hold while players bring other gear inside to dry.
The Duluth Police Department continues to investigate the incident and is working to return the recovered items to the team. No further details have been released at this time.
