Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Roger Jerome Jackson, 50, of Duluth, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for gross misdemeanor assault on a peace officer. The sentencing follows an incident on June 6, when Detroit Lakes police officers responded to a welfare check on Jackson, who was intoxicated at a residence on Main Street.

Officers discovered Jackson had outstanding arrest warrants from St. Louis County and Cass County, N.D., and took him into custody without incident. However, at the jail, officers decided to medically clear Jackson due to his high blood alcohol content and elevated blood sugar levels. While being transported back to the jail from the hospital, Jackson became aggressive, attempting to urinate on the floor, kicking at officers, and biting one officer, leaving a visible mark. He also tried to knee another officer.

In a plea agreement, a felony charge of fourth-degree assault on a peace officer and a gross misdemeanor charge of obstructing the legal process were dropped. On August 1, Jackson was sentenced to 364 days in jail, with 309 days stayed for two years, and credited for 55 days served. He was also fined $400, paid $160 in court fees, and required to complete a comprehensive assessment with follow-up care.
