Duluth (trfnews.i234.me) — A Duluth man has been arrested after police say he shot and killed his 74-year-old mother.
The Incident
The Duluth Police Department responded on Saturday, August 16, to the 1500 block of North Ninth Avenue East after receiving a report of a body. Officers found Maedean Davin, 74, deceased with an apparent gunshot wound.
Her son, Nathan Douglas Davin, 46, was arrested at the scene without incident. He was booked early Sunday into the St. Louis County Jail, pending a charge of second-degree murder with intent, not premeditated.
Background
Court documents show Nathan Davin listed 1511 North Ninth Avenue East, the residence owned by his mother, as his address as recently as last year.
In 2005, Davin was charged in Hennepin County with fifth-degree domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call. The assault charge was later dismissed.
Community Impact
This case marks the third homicide in Duluth this year. Police records indicate that in the last five years, more than half of Duluth’s homicides have been domestic-related.
Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa addressed community concerns, emphasizing the department’s continued focus on protecting residents and addressing domestic violence.
