Duluth, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Duluth police officer was stabbed in the leg early Saturday, police said.
What happened
Police said the call came in at about 12:35 a.m. near 1st Avenue West and First Street.
Dispatchers were told an intoxicated man was causing a disturbance.
Police said the man struck the side of a Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service vehicle.
Police said he also threatened the paramedics inside the ambulance.
Officers arrived and looked for the man in the area.
Police said they found him a block away at 1st Avenue West and Second Street.
An officer tried to detain the man, police said.
Police said the man resisted and stabbed the officer in the leg.

Arrest and jail booking
Police identified the suspect as 22-year-old Kevin Daniel Couillard of Duluth.
Officers took Couillard into custody at the scene, police said.
He was later booked into the St. Louis County Jail.

Officer injury
Police said the officer’s injury was not life-threatening.
The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
Police said the officer was treated and released.
Possible charges
Police listed several preliminary charges against Couillard.
They include first-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and fleeing on foot.
Police also listed obstructing the legal process and public nuisance.
Preliminary charges can change after a prosecutor reviews the case.
Minnesota law covers first-degree assault in Statute 609.221.
Court filings will show the final counts and any bail conditions.
What happens next
Duluth police said the case remains under investigation.
Police did not release details about the weapon.
