Duluth, St. Louis County (trfnews.i234.me) – A rear-end collision during a construction zone merge on northbound I-35 left one man injured Wednesday morning in Duluth.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the incident happened at 8:27 a.m. on June 4, 2025. A 2017 Chevy Camaro, driven by 52-year-old James Edward Griffin Phillips of Duluth, was merging ahead of a 2017 Chevy Colorado pickup as the lanes funneled into a single line in a construction zone near Highway 535.
The Camaro had completed the merge and slowed down when the pickup, driven by 66-year-old Scott Douglas Fox of Superior, Wisconsin, struck the rear of the car.
Phillips sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Essentia Health. Fox was uninjured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and airbags did not deploy. Alcohol was not a factor, and the road was dry at the time of the crash.
Mayo Ambulance assisted at the scene.
