Downtown Fargo Street Fair Kicks Off with Enhanced Security Measures

FARGO, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – The Downtown Fargo Street Fair begins today with heightened security following last year’s alleged plot to attack the event. In response to the events of July 14, 2023, Public Safety Partners have implemented numerous measures to ensure attendees’ safety.

North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley revealed early in the investigation that they suspected a gunman planned a mass casualty event targeting either the downtown street fair or the Red River Valley Fair. This year, organizers have doubled the security budget and introduced more officers, additional barricades, and drones monitoring the area.

Rocky Schneider of the Downtown Community Partnership stated, “We’ve upped our budgets for barricades and patrols. We’ve done extensive coordination between entities to stay in sync and ready in case of any issues.”

Fargo police have also updated downtown cameras, which will be monitored in real-time throughout the fair. “Every year, we look for better ways to keep the community safe,” said Captain Bill Offel. “From using large vehicles to block streets to full briefings with personnel, we’re ensuring everyone’s on the same page.”

Police Chief Dave Zabski added, “This increased technology will enhance safety, and we want everyone to feel comfortable coming to downtown Fargo and enjoying a fantastic few days.”

The fair runs from Thursday, July 18th, through Saturday, July 20th.
