Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) – A man severely beaten in Downtown Fargo earlier this month has died from his injuries, authorities confirmed.
A source familiar with the case told Flag Family Media that the 55-year-old victim died after being attacked around 3 a.m. Sunday, August 3. The assault occurred on the same morning as two deadly shootings in Fargo.
Court documents state that Fargo police responded to a report of a man bleeding from the head on the sidewalk in the 300 block of Broadway North. The 911 caller found the victim lying in a pool of blood outside the Fargo Theatre.
Before being taken to the hospital, the victim told police, “They attacked me and whacked me.” He became agitated and swung at EMS personnel while they attempted to assist him.
Authorities say the victim suffered life-threatening injuries, including multiple facial fractures. Video from a nearby business allegedly showed a man in dark clothing striking the victim multiple times with a skateboard.
Police tracked the movements of the suspect using nearby surveillance and officer body camera footage from another ongoing investigation that morning.
Fargo Police previously sought public help in identifying the suspect, leading to the arrest of 19-year-old Tabias Jamal Walker in Moorhead. Walker is being held in the Clay County Jail.
He appeared in court on August 13, where bond was set at $75,000. If convicted, Walker faces up to 10 years in prison. Prosecutors say using a skateboard as a weapon could trigger a mandatory minimum of four years without parole.
