FARGO, ND (trfnews.i234.me) — A routine arrest in downtown Fargo turned into a chaotic scene early Sunday morning when Quintin Bates resisted officers for nearly 20 minutes before finally being taken into custody.
According to court documents, at 4:28 a.m., an officer spotted Bates at Broadway and Second Avenue, recognizing him as having an outstanding warrant. Bates, however, sat on a bench with his hood up and mask on, denying his identity.
After multiple attempts to get him to comply, officers told Bates he was under arrest, but he physically resisted, forcing four officers to subdue and handcuff him. The struggle continued as he had to be forced into the squad car for transport to jail.
Upon booking, officers discovered methamphetamine in his possession. Bates is now charged with:
- Felony preventing arrest
- Misdemeanor possession of meth
- Providing false information to law enforcement
Authorities say the arrest was challenging, but no officers were injured.

Providing false information to law enforcement can lead to additional charges, especially if done to avoid an outstanding warrant. Many jurisdictions treat resisting arrest as a felony when it involves physical confrontation with officers.
