Douglas Co. ( trfnews.i234.me ) – Douglas County deputies released details of a tense pursuit and standoff on Interstate 94 near Evansville on Sunday afternoon. Authorities were first alerted around 12:12 p.m. to a stolen vehicle parked at the Burgeon rest stop. When deputies arrived, the vehicle fled, sparking a high-speed chase along the busy interstate.

Multiple agencies joined the pursuit, attempting to stop the driver with tire-deflating devices. The suspect avoided them, but deputies slowed the vehicle near mile marker 82 by performing a pit maneuver. The move forced the vehicle to spin out, but the driver reversed in an effort to escape. Deputies quickly pinned the vehicle against a guardrail to stop further flight.

Officers gave commands for the driver and passenger to exit. Instead, deputies observed the male driver putting on a heavy winter coat and additional layers, a tactic used to resist non-lethal law enforcement tools. Concerned about the escalation, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deployed its armored vehicle to the scene to provide protection.

After repeated verbal commands were ignored, deputies used Pepper Ball munitions to force compliance. Following the deployment, the driver, identified as Nicholas Sleen, and the passenger, Allison Jacobs, surrendered without further incident. Both received medical evaluation before being taken to the Douglas County Jail.

Authorities confirmed the two now face multiple charges, including fleeing law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, and firearms violations. The standoff caused a temporary shutdown of Interstate 94 near the Evansville exit. Numerous agencies provided support during the incident.

Formal charges are expected to be filed by Tuesday. The investigation remains ongoing. For background on police pursuit tactics, visit the Police1 resource. For details on Pepper Ball devices, see the Pepper Ball official site.
