Donavon Eugene Brown was born February 8, 1936, in Plummer, MN by the dam to Franklin “Oscar” and Blanche (Thornton) Brown. He was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. He attended Plummer School through the 12 grade.
Don met his wife in 1955 at the football game and on June 23, 1956, he married Lenore “Lee” Lanska at the Salvation Army. They lived in Red Lake Falls, MN from 1956 to 1959 and moved to Thief River Falls, MN where they lived the rest of their lives. To this union three children were born, Linda, Michael, and Pam.
Don was a very hard worker his whole life. He farmed when younger for many farmers around the Plummer area. He worked in Red Lake Falls from 1956 to 1959 and then when he moved to Thief River Falls he worked at Bridgeman’s from 1959-1974. From 1974 to 1976 he worked for Clyde Christianson with bees (that was the best job because he would bring home fresh warm honey). From 1976 to 1991 he worked maintenance for Lincoln High School, from 1991 to 1999 he worked at Westside Motors and from 1999 to 2008 he worked at Northland College. Don also worked a lot of side jobs like cleaning for the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Lon’s Elks, and Eagles.
Don enjoyed going to Gull Lake near Bemidji in the summer, also enjoyed going to the farm helping Neil and Vernon in the fields and he took pride in mowing the lawn. Don was a true handyman and was not afraid to take on any project. He also helped Lee at her ceramic shop years ago. Don also loved his best friend his dog “Cuddles” who passed away 7-6-14.
Don was a member at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and was an usher there for many years.
