Donald Wahlbeck, 83, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN with his loving family by his side.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:30 PM on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 4:00 PM graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Rev. Darrel Cory will officiate. Please wear your mask and practice social distancing.
Donald Selmer Wahlbeck was born March 31, 1937 in St. Hilaire, MN the son of Selmer and Maybelle (Hilligoss) Wahlbeck. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. He attended school in Thief River Falls and also entered into service with the Minnesota Army National Guard.
In addition to working on the family farm, Don worked at various places including Torgerson Oil, Northern Chevrolet, Fred’s Mobile and Wilson Brothers.
On September 3, 1960, Donald was united in marriage with the love of his life Yvonne Tischart at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union two daughters were born, Kathy and Kristi.
For four years during the mid-1960’s the family lived in Little Falls, MN where Don worked as an electrician. After their return to Thief River Falls, Don worked as an electrician at Arctic Cat, Como Electric in Grand Forks and then in 1971 began work at Lakehead Pipeline. Eventually he became Electrical Supervisor at the Viking Station.
After retirement in 1996, Don drove tractor for the Christensen Boys in the spring and fall. He loved spending time at his hobby farm north of town and deer hunting in the fall with his family. He loved to be with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were his pride and joy. He enjoyed his daily visits to Biff’s Café for great food and conversation and also helping his friend and neighbor, Becky with her crazy projects. He liked watching the television and was always up for good political conversation. Don was very good with technology and could run any ipad, ipod or iphone.
Don treasured spending time with his loving wife, Yvonne wherever their adventures would take them. On September 3, 2020 they celebrated 60 years together and the same day welcomed their newest great-granddaughter, Brynlee Yvonne. He was one of a kind, there was only one Don! He was easy to visit with and a kindhearted, loving, caring man.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne of Thief River Falls; daughters, Kathy (Phil) Kreuter of Goshen, IN and Kristi (Robert) Martinson of Karlstad, MN; grandchildren, Thomas (Jocelyn) Kreuter of Goshen, IN, Caroline (Chris) Walter of Goshen, IN and Katy (Brady) Reierson of Newfolden, MN; great-grandchildren, Kailyn Kreuter, Camden Kreuter, Landon Walter, Lillian Walter and Brynlee Reierson; sister, Barbara (Ray) Oulette of Proctor, MN; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry (Jan) Wahlbeck; step-brother, Ronnie Jorgenson; and step-sister, Colleen (Jon) Swenson.
