Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — A chaotic and violent domestic incident escalated into a multi-county police pursuit and officer-involved shooting on Wednesday evening, July 9, in northwestern Minnesota.
According to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault in the 2000 block of Highway 21, north of Detroit Lakes. The male suspect reportedly physically assaulted the victim and stole a firearm before fleeing in a vehicle.
Deputies located the suspect in Detroit Lakes, but he fled. A pursuit ensued, joined by Detroit Lakes Police, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office. The chase ended at the Frazee rest stop in Otter Tail County.
There, officers made contact with the suspect, leading to an officer-involved shooting. Officers administered medical aid on the scene. The suspect was first taken to Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes, then transferred to Fargo’s Essentia. His current condition remains unknown.
No officers were injured. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating. Body cameras were activated during the incident.
