BROCKET, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – Florence Whitetail, a 21-year-old from Devils Lake, is facing serious charges after a dramatic car chase in a stolen SUV on Thursday, September 12. Whitetail has been charged with reckless endangerment, fleeing police, and theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The pursuit, which spanned two counties, ended when Whitetail crashed the stolen SUV into a water-filled farm field northeast of Brocket, North Dakota. The chase began when Nelson County Sheriff Kurt Schwind attempted to pull Whitetail over in Lakota, North Dakota. Whitetail reportedly sped away, leading to a high-speed chase that covered approximately 13 miles.
During the chase, at the intersection of North Dakota Highway 1 and County Road 7, Sheriff Schwind fired his gun, although the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation has confirmed that no one was injured. The agency has yet to clarify the reasons for the gunfire, the number of shots fired, or whether the SUV was struck.
A passenger in the SUV was detained for an outstanding warrant.
