Krystal Colleen Koehnen, 35, of Detroit Lakes, was sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony fifth-degree drug charge. On May 10, 2023, a Becker County deputy stopped a vehicle on County Highway 25 without a working license plate. The driver was later arrested for DWI. The passenger, Koehnen, was arrested on an active warrant.
During the search of the vehicle, glass pipes commonly used to smoke drugs were found in her possession along with a digital scale and 48 fentanyl pills located behind where she had been sitting. Koehnen gave a statement admitting that the pills belonged to her.
On October 2, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony issued a stay of imposition. As part of this decision, successful completion of probation would result in a misdemeanor conviction for Koehnen.
The court ordered Koehnen to serve 36 days in jail with credit given for the time already served (also 36 days). She was also fined $500 plus an additional $150 in court fees.
Koehnen’s conditions include not drinking or using drugs, completing a comprehensive assessment and following its recommendations. Additionally, she must successfully complete the county’s Drug Court program. Her supervised probation will last for five years.
