Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me)—Kaylee Alexandra Miller, 33, of Detroit Lakes, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fifth-degree drug possession and gross misdemeanor second-degree DWI. As part of a plea agreement, a child endangerment charge was dropped.

The case stems from an August 3, 2024, incident when a Minnesota State Trooper stopped Miller on Highway 10 near Burlington Township for impeding traffic while driving 30 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Signs of Drug Use and Child Endangerment

Upon stopping Miller, the trooper noticed an infant in the rear seat and observed strong signs of stimulant use, including:
✔️ Red, watery eyes
✔️ Rapid, agitated speech
✔️ Body and facial tremors
✔️ Rigid posture
✔️ Burnt chemical odor

Miller, who appeared agitated and paranoid, told the officer she believed people had stolen her truck and were tracking her phone with GPS. She admitted to using “nothing harder than weed” for days, but failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI.

Methamphetamine Found During Booking

After being transported to Detroit Lakes Hospital, Miller provided a blood sample. Upon her booking at the county jail, authorities found three baggies of methamphetamine totaling 1.7 grams in her possession.

Her 1-year-old son was taken into emergency protective custody through Becker County Child Protection.

Court Sentencing & Probation Terms

Judge Gretchen Thilmony issued a stay of adjudication on the felony drug charge, meaning it will be dismissed if Miller successfully completes probation.

Sentencing Details:

  • Jail Time: 27 days (credited for time served)
  • Fines: $1,000 plus $75 in court fees
  • Probation: 5 years of supervised probation
  • DWI Charge: Additional $75 in court fees

Court-Ordered Conditions:

✔️ No alcohol or illegal drug use
✔️ Complete a MADD Impact Panel
✔️ Undergo cognitive skills training
✔️ Comply with behavioral intervention programs
✔️ Complete a mental health evaluation and follow all recommendations

Miller had a prior DWI conviction in June 2022.

This case underscores the serious consequences of impaired driving and drug possession, particularly when children are present.
