Detroit Lakes, Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — A 21-year-old man has been charged in Becker County after prosecutors said he used a fake Walmart Spark order to leave a Detroit Lakes store with Apple products worth more than $2,000.

According to a criminal complaint, Maurice Drewaun Jordan, of Detroit, Michigan, faces one felony count of theft by swindle. The charge was filed in Becker County District Court under case number 03-CR-26-114.

What the complaint says

The complaint says the case started with a report from Walmart’s loss prevention. Store staff reviewed a past theft from December 15, 2025, at the Detroit Lakes location.

Investigators said Jordan entered the store at about 1:09 p.m. He then went straight to the electronics department. Court records say he told a store worker that he was a Spark Shopper.

The complaint says Jordan showed what looked like a valid order barcode on his phone. He then asked for two Apple iPads and two Apple Watches from a locked case.

A store worker placed security devices on the items and bagged them. The complaint says Jordan then walked toward the front of the store. He allegedly passed all checkout points and left without paying.

Store alarms went off as he exited, according to the complaint. A door worker stopped him outside the store. Prosecutors say Jordan then showed the same barcode and what appeared to be an exit pass.

The complaint says the worker believed the documents were real and let him leave. Jordan then got into a waiting vehicle and left the area.

Items and values listed in court records

Prosecutors say Walmart later found the Spark order was fraudulent. Court records list the stolen items as two Apple Watches, priced at $429 each, and two 11-inch Apple iPads, priced at $599 each.

The complaint also lists four spider wrap security devices at $5.80 each. The total loss was listed at $2,079.20.

Minnesota law defines theft by swindle under Minnesota Statute 609.52. Public case details can be viewed through Minnesota Court Records Online.
