Detroit Lakes, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) – Cody James Kneifl, 27, of Detroit Lakes, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court following a disturbing domestic assault incident that occurred on April 16, 2025.
Kneifl was originally charged with felony domestic assault, but that was dismissed as part of a plea deal, leading to his conviction for misdemeanor fifth-degree assault.
According to court records, Kneifl slapped or “bopped” a woman twice and pinned her down, yelling sexually explicit commands. Her young son overheard the altercation and yelled from the next room.
On May 21, Judge Michael Fritz sentenced Kneifl to 90 days in jail, with 18 days credited and 72 days stayed for one year of supervised probation. He was also fined $185 and ordered to complete a domestic batterer’s program.
Kneifl is prohibited from possessing firearms, drugs, alcohol, or mood-altering substances unless prescribed.
