Detroit Lakes Man Caught on Camera Stealing Lock Box, Faces Felony Charges

Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Wesley Ross Thompson, 39, of rural Detroit Lakes, is facing serious legal trouble after being charged with felony possession of burglar tools and misdemeanor theft in Becker County District Court.

On February 20th, police were called to a store in Detroit Lakes following a report of theft. A woman reported that a lock box, used for after-hours access, had gone missing from the building’s stairs. Surveillance footage revealed two individuals near the lock box, including Thompson, who was seen attempting to enter a code into the device before slipping it into his sweatshirt pocket.

Thompson later returned on camera, attempting to unlock the door with a key from the stolen box, forcing the business owner to change the locks.

After failing to appear for his first court hearing on July 11th, a warrant was issued for Thompson’s arrest.
