Detroit Lakes Crime Report 5-25-2024

  • 6:29 a.m., Suspicious activity was reported along Anderson Road, Detroit Lakes, when a person wrapped in a blanket was observed. Deputies located the person, who was an adult male who stated they were from Virginia, but traveling on foot around the nation.
  • 9:36 a.m., Property damage to a window was reported at a residence along Pow Wow Highway, Ponsford. The incident report noted there also appeared to have been a fire inside the residence, as furniture had been burned.
  • 9:44 a.m., Disturbance to a neighboring property was reported along 336th Avenue, whenlogging activities began

  • 12:13 p.m., Fires in several ditches were reported along County Highway 15, Detroit Lakes. The fires were extinguished without incident.
  • 1:27 p.m., Owners of a parked pontoon on the beach along West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes, were notified they were not allowed to park on the beach.
  • 1:57 p.m., Trees that were stolen on state land

    near County Highway 46, Park Rapids, were reportedly being returned by the person believed to have removed them.

  • 3:30 p.m., Fire near a swamp was reported along County Highway 34, Ogema.
  • 4:07 p.m., Fraud was reported at a residence along Aspen Drive, Detroit Lakes. A female stated her identity had been stolen. She learned of the fraud when she was notified someone made purchases on her account in Texas. No age was given for the female in the incident report.
  • 5:43 p.m., Toddler was seen wandering along Uran Street, Ogema. The child, a 3-year-old female, was located and past incidents were noted. Family members got her.
  • 6:16 p.m., Assault was reported when an 11-year-old female stated she had been beaten up by a 13-year-old female along Pine Point Road, Ponsford. The victim had bruising to her legs but declined medical assistance.
  • 6:56 p.m., Dumping of refuse was reported along Main Avenue, Frazee. A person was seen removing items from a camper and leaving it in a business parking lot. Officers made contact with the person, who stated the person who sold them the camper was going to retrieve items they left inside of it.
  • 7:27 p.m., Male, 37, from Ogema, turned himself in to the Becker County Jail on an outstanding warrant.
  • 9:04 p.m., Fire was reported at a residence along Apex Court, Detroit Lakes. Children had started a fire in a fire pit. Officers spoke with the children about the dangers of starting fires.
  • 10:16 p.m., Fire was reported along County Highway 29, Frazee. The fire was determined to be part of a controlled burn.
  • 10:48 a.m., Suspicious activity was reported at a residence along 120th Avenue, Lake Park, when two signs were reported missing in the area — a stop sign and minimal maintenance sign. Items were also found dumped near the property, including a partial tombstone.
  • 2:38 p.m., A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Holmes Street and Washington Avenue, Detroit Lakes. An 18-year-old female was driving a Subaru and the pedestrian was a 72-year-old female. Medical assistance was declined.
  • 3:44 p.m., Two vape citations were issued at Detroit Lakes High School. Both citations were given to males. One was 19 and no age was given to the other.
  • 4:32 p.m., Fire in the grass was reported by the Audubon city dump near the city lagoons. The fire was extinguished without incident.
  • 6:27 p.m., Theft of about 30 Trex decking boards was reported at a residence along Big Cormorant Road.
  • 7:04 p.m., Fire was reported along County Road 129 Ponsford when heavy smoke was seen in the woods. No fire was located.
  • 11:31 p.m., Motor vehicle crash was reported along County Road 158 when an iPhone sent an SOS message to emergency dispatch. No vehicle was located in the vicinity where the call was made.
  • 12:14 a.m., Fire was reported in a field along County Highway 34, Detroit Lakes. The fire was extinguished without incident.
  • 2:37 p.m., Assault was reported at Circle of Life Academy when a 12-year-old male from Ogema reportedly assaulted a teacher.
  • 4:47 p.m., Disturbance was reported at a business along Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, when a customer began yelling about inadequate service. The incident report stated the customer left the store after paying for goods purchased.
