Rice Lake, MN (trfnews.i234.me)A dramatic incident unfolded in Rice Lake, Minnesota, on Monday afternoon, May 26, when a man allegedly assaulted a St. Louis County deputy during an arrest attempt, leading to a prolonged standoff.

Around 1:15 p.m., authorities responded to a report of a suspicious male in the 4100 block of Willard Road. Upon attempting to take the individual into custody, the deputy was reportedly placed in a chokehold by the suspect.

Following the assault, the suspect fled the scene on foot and climbed approximately 30 feet into a tree. Law enforcement from multiple departments, including the Duluth Police Department, Hermantown Police Department, Superior Police Department, Rice Lake Fire Department, Duluth Fire Department, and Mayo Ambulance, responded to the scene.

Negotiations ensued for about four hours as the suspect remained perched in the tree. Eventually, he descended on his own and was taken into custody without further incident.

The deputy involved received treatment at a medical facility and was later released.
