Darlene Marie Dyrud, age 85 of Grand Forks, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at her home.
Darlene Marie Dyrud, eldest daughter of Andrew and Florence (Czapiewski) Rogalla, was born on March 30, 1939 at Grafton, ND. Her father passed away when she was nine. She moved with her family in 1953 to Grand Forks. Darlene attended St. James High School. After graduation she attended the University of North Dakota receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Darlene moved to Red Lake Falls, MN where she taught and met the love of her life & future husband Harlan Dyrud. She then taught at Kenosha, WI and Rochester, MN for a time. On June 29, 1968 they were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND. They moved to Robbinsdale, MN for a time. They returned to Grand Forks where she began teaching in the Grand Forks schools. When her children were born Darlene became a substitute teacher. Because of her love of flowers, she worked part time at Wy’s Floral. Harlan passed away on March 2, 2021. Darlene continued to make Grand Forks her home.
She enjoyed gardening, baking and doing crafty things, including making Christmas ornaments for her family and friends. Darlene loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was active in choir and altar society
She is survived by her son Patrick (Tina) Dyrud of Hillsboro, ND; daughter, Susan (Ryan) McDonald of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Miles, Lucy and Taylor; brother, David (Marie) Rogalla of Grand Forks, a sister, Carol (Bruce) Denning of Colorado Springs, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Victor Rogalla; husband, Harlan; sister Joanne Vihstidt; brother, Timothy Rogalla.
Mass of the Christian Burial: Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: Thursday, 2 hours before the Liturgy in the church.
Burial: Calvary South Cemetery, Thompson, ND
