Daniel James Steward, 20, was sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony third-degree burglary. The court records show that on August 8, 2022, a woman reported her home had been entered and her purse taken.
The reporting party stated that she had left her purse near a kitchen window, which would have been within reach from the outside. She also mentioned that her son was sleeping in the basement at the time of the burglary.
A screen to the window was knocked to the ground during the incident. The screen was sent for fingerprint analysis and later matched Steward’s fingerprints through the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on June 7, 2023.
The court records also show that officers checked where Steward was living around the time of the burglary and found him in Detroit Lakes. He stated he had been drinking during the incident and others challenged him to do it.
On October 7, District Judge Michael D. Fritz issued a stay of imposition for successful completion of probation will result in a misdemeanor conviction.
