Curtis W. Samson (63) of Claremore, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Oklahoma Heart Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Curtis was currently living with his life partner, Rhonda and her children, Tiffany and Tommy for the past 17 years. Curtis Wayne Samson was born on August 20, 1960 to Sig and Margaret (Bjornson) Samson. He grew up and attended schools primarily in Grand Forks, ND. He graduated from Red River High School where he enjoyed a successful football career and built lifelong friendships. His daughter Heidi was born during this time. Curt attended the University of Minnesota Crookston where he received his degree in Radio Broadcasting and Communication. He had a remarkable speaking voice and a natural gift for captivating an audience. His talents later lended attendance to the Mason City College of Auctioneer and he became a licensed auctioneer. Curt began his radio career working at KYCK in Grand Forks, ND. At this time, he met and married Jan Samson (Schmiess). They moved to Bismarck, ND, and Curt was employed by KFYR radio. For the 20 years of their marriage, Curt had many entrepreneurial pursuits. C&J Sounds was his first business where he successfully conducted many wedding dances and benefits. They moved to Cavalier, ND, where he built the C-Store from the ground up and purchased the No Place Saloon, which later became the No Place Bar & Grill. Curtis and Jan had 3 children, Wayne, Barbie and Lindsey. He began his Ham Radio interest in Cavalier and his “towers” were the talk of the town. He moved to Oklahoma and met his partner (Rhonda) of 17 years in Tulsa, OK, in 2007. While there, he worked at Big Country 99.5/KVOO. He enjoyed his time with the Mayes County Amateur Radio Club in Pryor, call sign KCOFHF. He developed telephone transfer and answering skills, as well as public relations experience. He had a vast knowledge of electronics and electrical skills. Curtis W. Samson will be cremated and his ashes will be buried at the Vicar Lutheran Cemetery in Mountain, ND. He is survived by his life partner, Rhonda Birse and children Tiffany and Tommy; 3 brothers, Lee Samson (Jan) of Hastings, MN, Terry Samson (June) of Queen Valley, AZ, and Carlo Samson (Kim) of Canon City, CO; children, Heidi Soliman (Dr. Mahmoud) of Fargo, ND, Dr. Wayne Samson (Stephanie) of Fargo, ND, Barbie Weyer (Jordan) of Rochester, MN, and Lindsey Samson of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Julianna, Gabriella, Siraj (Heidi), Mia, Maxie, Brynja, Elska (Wayne), Weston and Wilder (Barbie) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Randy Jo Samson, his father and mother, Sig Samson and Margaret Samson. Curtis will be missed by his friends, family and the members of the Mayes County Amateur Radio Club. “At his best, Curtis was infectiously charismatic and fearlessly himself.”
