CROOKSTON, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – A post on the City of Crookston’s website announced that the city’s public pool will be closing due to limited use. The decision was made after careful consideration by the City Council and Parks & Rec department.
According to Jeff Shoobridge from the city, the cost to repair the facility exceeded $1.4 million, making it a difficult financial burden for the community. Despite efforts to maintain the pool’s usage, attendance remained low.
The closure has sparked concerns among residents about the potential impact on local youth and community growth. Some have expressed worries that children may resort to swimming in nearby rivers or other bodies of water.
Matt Rosu, a Crookston resident, emphasized the importance of maintaining amenities like public pools for community development. He stated that if the city wants to grow and attract residents, it needs more attractions and activities.
Rosu has announced his intention to run as a write-in candidate on the City Council ballot ahead of tomorrow’s election. The closure of the pool is expected to be discussed further during this time.
The last day of operation for the Crookston public pool was December 27th.
