CROOKSTON, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – On June 30, 2024, at approximately 11:46 p.m., Crookston Police Department officers responded to a reported altercation at the Care and Share Shelter, located at 220 East 3rd Street in Crookston, Polk County.
Upon arrival, officers encountered 44-year-old Christopher Ray Junkin, who was reportedly damaging property and not complying with verbal commands.
Officers employed less-lethal measures, including Tasers and chemical irritants, which proved ineffective.
When Junkin advanced toward the officers, Officer Nick Fladland discharged his service weapon, resulting in Junkin’s death at the scene.
The Crow Wing County Attorney reviewed the incident and concluded that Officer Fladland’s use of force was justified, leading to no criminal charges.
This incident followed a prior event on May 16, 2024, where Officer Fladland was involved in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Andrew Scott Dale, who allegedly approached officers with a hatchet.
