Crookston, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A Crookston man with a long criminal history has been charged with three new felony counts of violating a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO), involving continued communication with a protected party, L.M.H., who is reportedly pregnant with his child.

Joseph Eugene Johnson Jr., 54, was already on probation for multiple felony and misdemeanor convictions, including domestic assault and prior DANCO violations. Despite a DANCO issued on January 2, 2025, which barred all contact with L.M.H., Johnson allegedly contacted her repeatedly between June 1 and July 4, 2025, from jail.

Crookston Police say Johnson used fake names and multiple phone numbers to bypass jail monitoring systems and speak to L.M.H. Calls were recorded and reviewed by an Officer, who recognized Johnson’s voice. In some calls, L.M.H. is heard encouraging Johnson to “think” and referencing court dates.

Johnson now faces three new felony DANCO charges, each carrying up to 5 years in prison. Prosecutors have indicated they will seek an aggravated sentence, citing Johnson’s extensive record and unwillingness to comply with court orders.
