Polk County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A routine welfare check turned dangerous in Crookston, Minnesota this afternoon, when officers responded to a report of a person lying in a ditch with a backpack around 3:00 p.m. on July 4th.
According to early reports and video from the scene, an officer located the individual and placed them into a squad car for safety. Moments later, the officer called for urgent backup when the person began attempting to choke themselves using the squad car’s seatbelt.
Additional officers arrived quickly, and the situation was brought under control. The individual was then transported to Riverview Hospital for a mental health evaluation, according to radio traffic.
No injuries to officers were reported, and no criminal charges have been announced at this time. This remains an evolving situation, and updates are expected.
