Polk County, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — Startling new details have emerged following a wild high-speed police chase and officer-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, April 7, involving a 34-year-old Oklahoma man.
According to newly filed court documents, the suspect—Caleb Coffey—allegedly led Polk County deputies on a dangerous chase that began near Warren, Minnesota, not far from the Canadian border, and reached speeds up to 120 miles per hour.
The criminal complaint states that Coffey dodged multiple stop strips, including one on Minnesota Highway 1, and sped through downtown Crookston at over 100 mph. The pursuit finally ended when his 2011 Cadillac SRX went into a ditch.
Upon exiting the vehicle, Coffey was reportedly armed with a firearm in hand and another holstered on his hip. Despite officers issuing multiple commands to drop the weapon, he did not comply and was shot in the leg by law enforcement.
Coffey was taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges as the investigation continues. The Polk County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help, especially from anyone who may have had a near miss with Coffey’s vehicle during the chase between 9:40 and 10:10 a.m..
“With the erratic driving of the driver of the vehicle, we’re looking to see if there was anybody that was close to being hit by that vehicle,” said Chief Deputy Mike Norland.
The identity of the officer who fired the shot has not yet been released.
