Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) — A 21-year-old East Grand Forks man is charged after a jail intake search in Crookston.

Prosecutors say Logen Tayler Kurz brought contraband into the Northwest Regional Corrections Center on February 11, 2026.

The complaint lists one gross misdemeanor count of introducing contraband into a jail. The case is filed in Polk County District Court.

Traffic stop on Highway 9

A Polk County deputy stopped a tan 2002 Chevrolet Silverado around 3:02 a.m. The deputy reported expired registration tabs.

Radar showed 75 mph in a 60 mph zone, the complaint says. Kurz showed an expired instruction permit, prosecutors allege.

Kurz could not provide current insurance, the complaint says. His grandmother told him the policy was not paid.

Dispatch also confirmed Kurz was on probation in another case, the complaint says. The deputy arrested him on traffic violations.

Search at the jail

Kurz was searched before transport, and nothing was found, prosecutors allege. He was taken to the corrections center in Crookston.

At intake, staff and the deputy noticed Kurz walking oddly, the complaint says. Staff then searched him more closely.

Prosecutors say staff found a large water bong. They also found a small wax-like substance.

A field test suggested the substance was a synthetic cannabinoid, the complaint says. Kurz admitted he hid the items in his pants.

Charge details and what’s next

Minnesota law bans bringing contraband into a jail without consent. The complaint cites Minnesota Statute 641.165.

Synthetic cannabinoids are addressed in Minnesota Statute 152.027.

A gross misdemeanor can carry up to 364 days in jail. It can also bring a $3,000 fine.

A probation agent, Jessica Hajicek, later gave Kurz a urine test, the complaint says. The test was presumptive positive for THC.

The complaint also lists earlier drug cases involving Kurz. Those include a 2024 marijuana sale case and a 2025 cannabis possession case.

Kurz is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Court records show the file number as 60-CR-26-193.
