Crookston, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — James Donald “Jim” Kelly, 90, died peacefully early Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, his family said.
Kelly was born April 15, 1935, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. His parents were James and Dorothy (Webskowski) Kelly.
Early life and military service
Kelly grew up in Thief River Falls. He attended a local grade school. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953.
After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1953 to 1957. He worked as a radio repairman.

Work and interests
After military service, Kelly worked in office machine repair. He built his skills over many years. He worked for several office supply stores.
Hockey was central in his family life. He watched his sons play. He watched his grandsons and granddaughters play. Loved ones said he rarely missed games.
Kelly also enjoyed cards with friends. He played in many smear tournaments.
Family
Kelly is survived by his wife, Janice Corine (Johnson) Kelly.

- Daughter: Tracey (Jeffrey) Sundeen
Survivors include grandchildren: Jennifer (Tom) Jopp, Terri (Roy) Klipping, Brady Langlois, Casey Kelly, Mallorie Sundeen, Brianna Kelly, Nathan Kelly, and Parker Kelly.
He is also survived by a great-grandson, Ronan Kelly.
Kelly is preceded in death by his son, Kory Kelly. He was also preceded by his sisters. They were Madonna Molstad, Marlene Backlund, Patricia Huttleston, and Kathleen Hume.
Community ties
Kelly was a member of Crookston American Legion Post 20. He was also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #873 in Crookston.
Service details
A funeral service was set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025. The service was planned at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston.
