GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – In a dramatic turn of events, Nicholas Jon Narveson, a 27-year-old Grand Forks man accused of a fatal shooting, has been ordered to undergo a psychological and criminal responsibility evaluation before his case can proceed.

Narveson, who is being held on a $1 million bond, appeared in court on Monday, August 12. The charges stem from a chilling incident where Narveson allegedly shot 53-year-old James Erwin Jorgenson multiple times inside Sledsters Food & Brew, a popular downtown bar. Jorgenson was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to witness reports, Narveson drew a handgun, fired at Jorgenson, and then fled the scene, only to be apprehended nearby without further incident. Authorities have not disclosed whether the two men knew each other or what may have precipitated the violent act.

On August 9, Narveson’s attorney filed a motion for a mental health evaluation, a move that was unopposed by the state. Judge Kristi Venhuizen granted the request during Monday’s hearing, delaying the case until the evaluation is completed.
