EMERADO, ND (trfnews.i234.me) The City Clerk in Emerado, North Dakota has filed a complaint against the Mayor. A mediation board has now made a recommendation of how to fix the rift.
Bad blood between the mayor and city clerk at Emiro City Hall just west of Grand Forks by the Grand Forks Air Base. A special Monday night meeting of a mediation board. Three members on the left appointed by the council and the city attorney on the right. City clerk Janelle Claup filed a complaint against Mayor Jake Lanes following a heated argument over the city budget she recorded on September 30th. A reading from Claver’s complaint, quote, “The argument got very confrontational.” So, I said, “I am done.” And walked out of my office toward the front door when Mayor Lanes yelled very loudly, “And if you ever talk to me like that again, you just remember that I have your effing job in the palm of my hand,” unquote. We had a conversation after the last meeting, >> okay, >> we had um he approached me to apologize and I told him it’s kind of late, it’s over a month, you know, had you come to me a week, you know, after this incident and said, you know, I’m sorry things got heated, maybe I could have accepted it, but after 30 days, I mean, that’s a long time um to come to me and I said, you know, it it the rapport we have is now it’s not the same, never going to be the same. >> The time lapse was due to outside factors, outside of city business factors, um, between personal situations and life. I’ll put it that way. Um, but no, I wouldn’t agree that seasons or Christmas or anything like that had to do that. It was just city business and things got heated. M >> the mediation board’s job was to come up with a recommendation of how to fix the rift between the two, which now needs to be approved by the council. That recommendation is for only emails between the clerk and mayor for the next 6 months and to include a copy of those emails to council members. We’ll keep you updated.
