MANDAN, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) — Col. Vernon Huber, a Mandan native who dedicated 25 years of service to the U.S. Air Force, passed away on September 14, 2024, at the age of 96. Known for his bravery during the Korean War, Huber became a prisoner of war in 1952 after his jet was struck by ground fire, forcing him to eject and endure months in captivity.
In 2021, Huber achieved a long-held dream of leading Mandan’s Independence Day Parade, a testament to his lasting connection with his hometown. His contributions to both his community and country were deeply cherished.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held in his honor on September 20th. Col. Huber’s legacy as a hero, leader, and POW will be remembered by all who knew him.
