CLEARWATER COUNTY, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – New court documents reveal disturbing details in the death of 26-year-old Tray Lee McCollum of Bagley. Prosecutors have charged Christyan Matthew Logan with three counts of murder.
Investigators say the events began Saturday at Lower Rice Lake. McCollum was harvesting wild rice with his half-brother, identified in documents as “BB.” The two left briefly to buy alcohol. When they returned, Logan allegedly exited his vehicle and attacked BB, who ran into the woods. BB told investigators he looked back and saw Logan fighting McCollum and stomping on his head.
BB reported that McCollum was unresponsive and turning blue. Logan allegedly helped load McCollum into a vehicle and drove him to a home on Brown Street in Bagley. There, McCollum’s girlfriend called 911. Emergency responders transported him to Sanford Bagley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:35 a.m. Sunday.
Medical staff documented severe head injuries, including damage to McCollum’s left orbital socket, trauma to his eye, and a deep cut on his nose. Staff noted the wounds were consistent with extreme force.
Logan now faces three separate charges: second-degree murder with intent (not premeditated), second-degree murder without intent while committing a felony, and third-degree murder for perpetrating an eminently dangerous act. Court records also show Logan has prior convictions for criminal sexual conduct and burglary, along with a pending case involving domestic assault and a protection order violation.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation. An autopsy is being conducted at the University of North Dakota Forensic Pathology Center in Grand Forks.
