Clay County: Derek James Krause Arrested for Forged Check Scheme & Identity Fraud

Clay County (trfnews.i234.me) — Derek James Krause, age 35, was arrested on March 11, 2025, following enforcement by the Dilworth Police Department, Hawley Police Department, and Moorhead Police Department.

Charges filed:

Dilworth Police Department:

  • Offer or Possess Forged Check

  • Theft of Property – $1 to $500

Hawley Police Department:

  • Giving Peace Officer False Name – Of Another Person

Moorhead Police Department:

  • Possession or Sale of Stolen/Counterfeit Check Over $2,500

Authorities allege Krause was involved in a check fraud scheme involving counterfeit and stolen checks with values exceeding $2,500. He also reportedly provided a false identity during an encounter with officers.

Krause is currently in custody facing felony and misdemeanor charges across multiple jurisdictions.
