Clay County (trfnews.i234.me) – A high-speed pursuit through Fargo has landed a Clay County Corrections Officer in serious legal trouble and the hospital, after he allegedly reached speeds of 143 MPH and crashed into a sedan.

According to court documents obtained by trfnews.i234.me, Avery Quiner, now faces three counts of fleeing a peace officer and two counts of reckless endangerment following the dramatic incident.

Police say the pursuit began when Quiner, riding a motorcycle, sped past officers on 45th Street South, prompting an attempted traffic stop. Rather than complying, Quiner allegedly accelerated southbound at dangerously high speeds.

A second officer clocked Quiner at 143 MPH in a 40 MPH zone using squad-mounted radar. Despite this, Quiner reportedly blew through red lights at the intersections of 52nd Avenue and 45th Street, then again at 52nd Avenue and 42nd Street, continuing to flee.

Just as the officer was preparing to terminate the pursuit, a crash was reported at 52nd Avenue and 31st Street South. Police say Quiner had collided with a sedan at that location after narrowly avoiding other vehicles during the chase.

Quiner was seriously injured in the crash and transported to a hospital. The two people in the vehicle he struck sustained minor injuries.

Under North Dakota law:

  • Reckless Endangerment is a Class B felony with a potential 20-year prison sentence.

  • Fleeing a peace officer in a vehicle with risk of serious harm carries up to 5 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
