Clay County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead woman is facing criminal charges after police say she was found living inside a damaged ice fishing house. The case has led to both felony and misdemeanor charges.
According to a probable cause statement, officers were called to a Moorhead property on September 26 at 1:51 p.m. The report indicated that a woman had broken into an ice house stored on the property during the summer months. When the property owner arrived with another individual, they noticed that the ventilation flap to the bathroom was unsecured and showed visible damage.
Officers say the ice house owner found pry marks on the door and wire cutters next to a damaged vent on the roof. Inside the structure, they discovered a woman later identified as Alisa A. Reyes. Police reported that it appeared she had been living inside the ice house, as she had personal belongings with her, and the toilet had been used.
The cost of the damage to the ice house was estimated at over $3,000. Reyes was arrested and now faces charges of felony first-degree damage to property and misdemeanor trespass in Clay County District Court. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Officials remind property owners to regularly check stored equipment and recreational vehicles to prevent theft or damage. Under Minnesota law, felony property damage charges can carry significant penalties. More information about property crime laws can be found at the Minnesota Statutes 609.595.
