Bemidji, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A Red Lake man is facing a misdemeanor theft charge after allegedly attempting to walk out of the Bemidji Walmart without paying for nearly $400 in merchandise.

On November 30, 2023, Bemidji Police responded to a theft report at Walmart, where Franklin Dale Skinaway Sr., 43, was observed by store staff concealing multiple items in his jacket. Surveillance footage and witnesses stated Skinaway only scanned bags of salt at self-checkout and failed to pay for a car battery, charger pack, and other concealed items.

He passed all points of sale before being stopped by employees. The total value of the unpaid merchandise was $362.69.

Skinaway has been charged in Beltrami County District Court with misdemeanor theft, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
