Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Cass Lake woman is facing criminal charges after providing police with a false name during a traffic stop that followed a vehicle fleeing law enforcement.

According to court records, on June 23, 2025, law enforcement attempted to stop a speeding vehicle. One passenger fled on foot, and the others—including Crystal Joy Hunt (DOB: 02/04/1980)—were detained. Hunt allegedly gave officers the identity of a relative: Phyliss Louise Hunt, DOB: 04/21/1991.

Investigators later determined she had provided a false identity, resulting in a gross misdemeanor charge for Giving a Peace Officer the Name of Another Person under Minnesota Statute 609.506.2. The offense carries a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine.
